35 dancers on stage, wow!

One is just ten maybe. Another is out of ten. And there are a few teens too.

Dance guru Sujatha Mohan stars 30 plus dancers at the Mylapore Sound and Light show, to be staged daily. Runs for 40mins only.

Dance is part of the package.

Imagine the crowd backstage then. Wonder how Sujatha manages these kutties!

We want lots of feedback on this show. So be there and mail your comments.

P S - Violinist Kanyakumari is putting 50 violinists on stage at IIT'M's Saarang - to commemorate IIT's golden jubilee. I will have to give Saarang a miss though we had a hand in helping put up the Madras/Chennai Express section . . .

It was a wonderful programme Yesteray. Hats off to the Guru and students.

The theme was very good blending name, fame, tradition and culture of Mylapore with the latest hot topic of environment.

The sound and light show on 23/1/09 was very good. The concept chosen went well with the festival. The music, recording, the projection on the screen was very finely done and very good choreography to suit the song. It was neatly done to reach the lowest of the masses and also in an entertaining manner. It was very informative to learn more about Mylai and brought nostalgic memories to many seniors around. Kudos the Mylapore festival team and all. Best wishes Sreelakshmi K

It was an enthralling show by the Students of smt Sujatha Mohan. We were shocked to hear that neither the guru sujatha nor the young musicians including the vocalists, instrumentalists, lyrics writer, Music Director were honoured on Stage after putting up such a great effort.

A very good attempt. But a few bits of suggestions to the director. The grandly lit mantapam as the backdrop and the coloured lights for the dancers on the stage were only the 'light' and the music for the songs and the traffic noise were only the 'sound' for the show. Though called a Sound 'n' Light show, it was more like a dance ensemble. Poompavai and Tiruvalluvar stories could have been enacted by theatre artists. The dancers brought in dance movements which could have been avoided. Also there is a full piece of classical dance item, a Thillana, to further make it a dance programme. Another point I want to make - Should all anthems end like a Thamizh Thaai Vazhththu?
These are suggestions only. The festival was grand and improved a lot over the years.

One more screen on the centre stage for vidoes, rays of lights of different colours flashed on the stage, hoarding like cutouts on stage and lights on them at the appropriate time (example - lights on Tiruvalluvar temple hoaring when the lines about the temple is told, lights on tank hoarding when it is talked about)will be suitable for such Sound 'n' Light show.

It was a pleasure to be in Mylapore during the festival. It was co-incidence that I was touring to Tamil Nadu now and could witness a festival like this. I enjoyed the food on the street and arts and crafts by students on the street and kolam on the street. Every town and city should celebrate their streets periodically as we abuse them a lot in everyday life. Congratulations to all those behind this festival.

The sound and light show on all the 4 days was very good. Very good choreography to suit the song. It was neatly done to reach the lowest of the masses and also in an entertaining manner. It was very informative to learn more about Mylai and brought nostalgic memories to many seniors around. Kudos the Guru and the team. But all this will have to be properly appreciated on time.

the sound and light show was really great. the efforts put in by the musicians and the dancers were really evident. the only sad part about this show is that both the musicians and the dancers were not recognized.
